Well what a long hot sweaty summer its been
– must be all that global warming ozone stuff, but there’s no time for
Bleeding Hearts to stop and soak up the summer sun. There’s work to be done,
festivals and gigs to be played!
One of the hottest, most sweatiest gigs
for the hearts this summer was when they supported the Damned
at the Stourbridge Rock Café. We were all looking forward to
this gig as we were told it had sold out weeks before. The Hearts
have played the Rock Café a number of times but this is the first
time we’d ever seen crowd barriers erected at the front of the stage!
Most of the audience had never seen
Bleeding hearts before and our boys only had 35 minutes to
prove themselves, so it was a case of punk power, no messin,
and not an acoustic guitar in sight for this gig. As usual
for a support slot, there’s little to no sound check, but this
doesn’t fluster our boys, just plug-in , turn up to 10 and play!
Except Steve, whose custom amp goes up to 11. That’s one more louder innit?!
Like a well-oiled military
war-machine Bleeding Hearts went in fast with Democracy, hit
‘em hard with Third Eye, and at the end of the set left the
audiences ears bleeding with Blank Country Bomb! (er, ed! Do
you think all that war stuff on the Telly might have had some
sort of sub-conscious effect on you?).
The evening was a fantastic success
for both the Damned and the Bleeding Hearts, the Rock Café
was hot, the Bands were hotter, and the crowd sweating more
than a turkey that had just realised Christmas was just 3
months away.
